Jonathan Cain
Jonathan Cain (Jonathan Leonard Friga) was born on February 26th, 1950 and is currently 75 years old. Jonathan Cain was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Cain attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
Jonathan Cain is a singer, songwriter, and musician best known for being Journey’s rhythm guitarist and keyboardist. He’s also worked for Bad English and The Babys. Jonathan also maintains a solo career as a contemporary Christian artist.
When he was 8 years old, he started accordion lessons, and by the time he was in his teens, he was playing piano and accordion at parties and in clubs. Jonathan also plays bass, guitar, and harmonica.
He left The Babys in 1980 to join Journey, taking Gregg Rolie’s place on keys. He aided Journey’s rise to the top of the charts with his first contributions on the Escape album, composing and playing piano on “Don’t Stop Believin’”, which has been called one of the best opening keyboard riffs in all of rock. Possibly his most notable contribution was when he was the sole author of “Faithfully”, a song about life on the road while in a band. He’d go on to appear on at least 13 Journey albums and compilations.
He reunited with Babys band members Ricky Phillips and John Waite, as well as Neal Schon, and Deen Castronovo to form Bad English. They released 2 albums before they disbanded in the early 90s.
Don’t Stop Believin’: The Man, the Band, and the Song that Inspired Generations is the long-awaited memoir about Jonathan’s career with one of the most successful musical groups in history, his personal tale of overcoming and faith, and the tales behind his greatest hits including “Don’t Stop Believin’”.
When he and Journey got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he could say that he’d finally arrived. However his journey wasn’t always an easy one, and his real arrival in life had much more to do with faith than fame.
When he was a kid, he survived a horrific school fire which killed nearly 100 of his classmates. This experience formed a resilience which would carry him through success and tragedy. Moving from Chicago to Sunset Boulevard, he never let his dreams go, eventually getting his big break with Journey, and penning the songs which would become the soundtrack of a generation.
This is an epic tale about one man’s dream which takes you from playing old country songs at an Italian Deli in Chicago and his experiences with an encouraging and warm dad that died much too soon, to all of a sudden writing mega-bestselling tunes with some of the most talented musicians and performers ever to take the stage of some of the world’s biggest arenas.
