Is IQ the modern-day Sherlock Holmes? Contemporary authors are so obsessed with recreating Sherlock’s most famous cases. They don’t realize that it is far more impactful to create a new detective as compelling as Sherlock was when he debuted, which is why I have so much respect for Joe Ide.
Movies and TV shows have spent so many years saturating our minds with stories about detectives that use the latest forensic technology to find criminals. We have forgotten the ancient art of deduction that made the Golden Age of mystery and crime fiction so glorious.
I hope the genre gives us more detectives like IQ. He’s immensely entertaining.
I heard Joe aide at the Tucson Festival of Books. He did not disappoint, just like his writing. He was funny, self-deprecating and intelligent. Buy his books!
