In 2018, James Clapper published Facts and Fears, a work that provides an insider's account of his time in intelligence and serving under President Obama.

He discusses major events such as the Russian alleged interference in American elections, Snowden leaks, and the bin Laden raid. He looks back at principal themes in intelligence, such as the tensions between security and privacy, intelligence transparency, and cyber threats.
