James DiNicolantonio

James DiNicolantonio is a Doctor of Pharmacy and cardiovascular research scientist who works for the Kansas City-based St. Luke’s Mid-America Heart Institute. He is widely respected for his work on chronic disease prevention, evidence-based nutrition, and cardiovascular health.

He has published or co-published approximately 300 scientific articles on a range of topics such as low-carbohydrate diets, salt intake, micronutrients, and fat metabolism. His work has influenced policies by the Health Ministry, and he has testified in the Senate in Canada on how added sugar may potentially be detrimental to health.

Working with the British Cardiovascular Society, he was the Associate Editor of BMJ’s Open Heart. James also helped guide peer-reviewed science as a member of the advisory board of journals such as the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology and Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases.

James DiNicolantonio has been an Associate Editor for Elsevier’s Nutrition and has been invited to give his views in several media platforms, including The Doctors and The Dr. Oz Show.

He holds several leadership roles at various organizations, such as AIDP, where he is the Director of Scientific Affairs, in addition to having consultancy and advisory roles with several companies in biotechnology.

In his work The Salt Fix, Dr James DiNicolantonio argues against assertions that salt is harmful.

From reviews of more than 500 research papers, he asserts that more harm may be done by low-salt diets. On the other hand, he argues that salt can support health rather than be detrimental to heart health, particularly for people on keto, which has been known to reduce salt intake.

He argues that taking too little salt can increase the incidence of chronic illness, weight gain, and sugar cravings. James also offers a five-step plan to find your ideal salt intake, which he believes will result in improved focus, sleep, and energy, and help prevent chronic diseases.

In 2021, DiNicolantonio published the work The Mineral Fix to explore the detrimental effects of mineral deficiencies.

He explains that many people in the developed world lack essential minerals such as zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. He asserts that the deficiency of these key minerals, critical for good health, can lead to chronic diseases like diabetes and heart problems.

He goes on to explain the importance of minerals in the body and why it is bad when their levels drop too low. DiNicolantonio also shows how to fix imbalances to enhance longevity, energy, and overall well-being.

A year later, James DiNicolantoni published the work The Collagen Cure in which he explains the role of collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body.

He explains how collagen levels begin to drop at age 20, reducing by about 10% every decade, resulting in aging. He argues that the decline in collagen often results from a low intake of glycine, an amino acid critical in collagen production.

But he also provides a plan to enhance collagen production through biohacking, diet, supplements, and exercise to help people feel, look, and function better as they age.
