Jake Adelstein, real name Joshua Lawrence Adelstein, is a blogger, crime writer, and journalist from the United States best known for his work on crime in the underworld of Tokyo. His most important work was the book
Tokyo Vice, which would later be adapted into a TV series.
Adelstein grew up in the United States and during his teenage years, he was a co-host of a punk music program and a volunteer at a nonprofit community radio in Missouri. He was 19 when he moved to Japan for college where he would then become a correspondent for the largest paper in Japan -
Yomiuri Shimbun.
Between 2006 and 2007 Jake Adelstein worked with the American State Department which investigated human trafficking by the mafia in Japan. He still works as a consultant and writer on organized crime in Japan in addition to working on the
Polaris Project, which seeks to combat the exploitation and trafficking of women and children.
In 2011, Jake sued
National Geographic, citing ethical problems in how they operated in Japan after he was contracted to make a documentary about the Japanese Mafia. However, the case was thrown out with prejudice.
As for his personal life, Adelstein was once married and had two kids with Sunao Adelstein.

Tokyo Vice in 2009. For more than a dozen years, he worked in the dark side of Japan where fiscal corruption, extortion, human trafficking, and murder were rife. But then his final expose unearthed a scandal that involved the FBI and unexpectedly, this resulted in death threats to himself and his family too.

It is a work that compiles all the Facebook updates, blog posts and tweets that were written in the weeks following the most devastating Earthquake Japan ever experienced. The author uses these posts to record the events and those affected in addition to using them as a form of fundraiser for survivors of the tsunami.

Hawaiian Big Chill, which flooded the island with a new narcotic named “ice” that was sourced from Japan. The Americans decide to go after the source and employ the services of Jim Stern, a Japanese Jewish Special Agent who can get to the Yakuza. But it will not be so easy and in fact may be very dangerous.
