Erin French

Erin French was born on August 30th, 1981 and is currently 44 years old. Erin French was born in Freedom, ME, USA.

Erin French is a writer and the owner of The Lost KitchenBeard Award.

Erin shares stories from the kitchen and beyond in her memoir Finding Freedom. She dives deeper into her life and covers twists and turns that led to her successful career as the founder and head chef of The Lost Kitchen in the small town of Maine.

Though this was her first nonfiction book, Erin showcases her talents as a storyteller from all angles. She explores her early cooking career and recounts her childhood, which was full of bucolic wonder, as well as her adult life full of struggles.

Erin was born to a strict father who ran a local dinner and spent almost her entire childhood in the helping out in the kitchen. She was already taking and filling orders by teenage years. She felt anxious, and wanted out of that small town really bad. However, her taste of freedom didn’t last - by 21, she was homeless and pregnant.

Her marriage with her drinking husband turned out rough. He physically abused her but she was caught up in pills.

Despite all these hardships, the author avoids unnecessary sentimentality or self-pity. In addition, Erin also explores her love for Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Stevie Nicks, and the “Cape Verdean jazz” and also shares details about baking pot brownies and getting stoned for the first time in her life at the age of 33.

She also explores other relatable details of her scuffles and reconciliation efforts with her sister. What you will love about this memoir is Erin’s honesty about her life journey. She doesn’t blame anyone but herself for her struggles in life. She’s open when discussing her rock bottom episode under the control of her manipulative husband, who took full custody of their son when she was in rehab. Erin also explores in depth her drug addiction and how she managed to find her way back to independence.

But food was always Erin’s focus in her life. She loved experimenting with new ways, and eventually her restaurant became a popular spot in her community, even though she never went to culinary school.

Erin finally found the freedom she was searching for in Freedom, Maine. Acquired an abandoned mill and established her restaurant there with the barn as a wine cellar. In the end, Erin French’s story is raw and truly inspiring. It’s a memoir with so much heart you cannot stop reading it. All the descriptions are something to savor for even though her journey was never as smooth as we want it.
