Emmet Fox (Joseph Emmett Fox) was born on July 30th, 1886. Emmet passed away August 13th, 1951 at 65 years old. Emmet Fox was born in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Fox attended St Ignatius' College.

Emmet Fox was an Irish author of religious and spiritual books. He is popularly known for his work in the New Thought movement during the early 20th century. He became a leading figure throughout the Great Depression and continued teaching until his death. Emmet held large Divine Science church meetings in New York City that drew many people. Today, many view him as a spiritual influence behind Alcoholics Anonymous.

Emmet’s book 10 Commandments is a fresh and intense interpretation of one of the most well-known biblical texts. Instead of viewing the commandments as a list of restrictions, Fox explores their deeper spiritual meaning and shows how they reveal timeless metaphysical truths.

Those who believe God is loving and good will experience goodness, while those who view God as vengeful will attract hardship. Even those who deny God, he says, still “worship” whatever they attribute power to and if that belief is limited, their life will reflect those limitations.

Fox explores the symbolism in the Bible, especially around Egypt and the Exodus. He explains that “coming out of Egypt” represents leaving behind trouble and ignorance and turning toward spiritual awareness. It is the journey from the material to the divine, from effect to cause, where one learns to access infinite wisdom, love, and power within.

One of the most interesting insights Fox offers concerns “sexual polarity.” He interprets it as the spiritual union of masculine and feminine principles in creation thought (masculine) and emotion (feminine).

Just as life requires both man and woman to create a child, manifestation involves the merging of thought and emotion. An idea shapes what we want, while emotion gives it energy and power to come into being.

Both principles, he reminds readers, arise from one divine Source, God, the Superconscious. Fox’s 10 Commandments is inspiring and deeply thoughtful. It is a fantastic guide for readers beyond literal interpretation into a more empowering understanding of divine truth and human potential.
