Dylan Evans

Dylan Evans was born on August 18th, 1966 and is currently 59 years old. Dylan Evans was born in Bristol, England. Evans attended London School of Economics where he received a PhD (which he later renounced). He also studied at Southampton University.

Dylan Evans is a former academic and author that’s written books about emotion and the placebo effect along with the theories of Jacques Lacan.

Dylan went to Southampton University and studied Linguistics and Spanish and later he got his doctorate in philosophy from the London School of Economics.

He was a psychoanalyst in the Jacques Lacan style, and wrote a standard reference work in the field. After a number of years, he came to doubt the scientific and logical validity of Lacanianism, and ultimately would abandon the field since he was worried that Lacanianism harmed instead of helped patients.

He worked at the University of Bath and the University of West of England in artificial intelligence. He resigned from the position of senior lecturer at the University of West of England to start a project in sustainable living called the Utopia Experiment.

Dylan was a lecturer in Behavioral Science in the School of Medicine at University College Cork. In 2010,the university gave him the President’s Award for Research on Innovative Forms of Teaching for his Cork Science Cafe project, along with colleague Catherine O’Mahony.

His uncontrollable curiosity has led him in some wonderful and weird directions. Dylan once led this experiment in post-apocalyptic living in the Scottish Highlands. On a different occasion he made this film for British TV which wound up getting banned.

He’s worked as an interpreter for a Marxist Catholic nun and a Zulu, trained as a Lacanian psychoanalyst in Argentina, and he has been censored for sharing a scientific paper about fruitbats. Dylan has also taught at various universities around the world, written several popular science books, and set up two companies.

An Introductory Dictionary of Lacanian Psychoanalysis. Jacques Lacan’s thinking revolutionized the practice and theory of psychoanalysis and had a major impact in fields as diverse as philosophy, film studies, feminist theory, and literary criticism. But his writings are notorious for their idiosyncratic style and complexity. Emphasizing the clinical basis of his work, this is an ideal companion to his ideas for readers of every discipline where his influence is felt.

This book features over 200 entries, which explain Lacan’s own terminology and use of common psychoanalytic expressions. There’s details of the institutional and historical context of Lacan’s work. Dylan makes reference to the origins of major concepts in the work of Hegel, Freud, Saussure, and other key thinkers. And there’s a chronology of Lacan’s works and life.
