I took a class that wanted me to dissect Dante’s Divine Comedy. It was fortunate that I wasn’t particularly invested in the class because Dante’s Divine Comedy was painfully dull. When I finally abandoned the course, the only thing that went with me was my new appreciation for Dorothy L. Sayers.
I came across her name while researching the Divine Comedy. While her translation of the poem did nothing for me, she deserves to be commended for her mystery novels.
Lord Peter Wimsey has jumped to the top of my list of favorite fictional detectives. But even if he wasn’t in the picture, I would still read Dorothy’s stories because I can’t get enough of her funny but dated phrases.
