Derren Brown is a British painter, psychological illusionist, mentalist, and magician. He got started in his public career in 2000 when he was involved in a series of specials titled Mind Control on UK TV that established him as one of the best at psychological manipulation.

Over the years, he has been involved in controversial but groundbreaking TV stunts. He, at one time, played Russian Roulette on TV, immobilized users at home, predicted the results of the National Lottery, and orchestrated a zombie apocalypse that felt all too real.

In addition to his work on TV, he is the author of several bestselling novels and is a stage performer who has broken many records. He has been nominated for the Olivier Award five times and won twice, which no other solo performer has ever achieved.

Despite the bizarre nature of his work, he has asserted that he does not have psychic or magical powers and that all the participants in his stunts are unknowing and genuine. In that vein, he frequently debunks pseudoscience and fraudulent mediums and was featured in The Enemies of Reason, a documentary exposing such practices.

Outside of his career on TV, Derren Brown spends a lot of his time working on taxidermy, photography, and painting. He has published a photography collection titled Meet the People and a book of caricatures titled Portraits. He is also the creator of Thorpe Park’s immersive ghost train attraction.

Confessions of a Conjuror is a work in which Derren chronicles his life of magical mystery. It is a very engaging story in which he explores different elements, from the fundamentals of psychology and the history of magic to the proper use of Parmesan cheese and the joys of shopping online.

In 2016, Derren Brown published Happy, an exploration of happiness through personal reflection, psychology, and philosophy.
