Danielle Barnhart
Danielle Barnhart is the editor of
Women of Resistance. This collection of poetry is about a new feminism, cutting across gender identity, sexuality and race.
This was created in response to the 2016 election, as both Danielle Barnhart and Irish Mahan were motivated by it and created this anthology, featuring various poets who have a strong feminist stance.
Danielle, a Donald Everett Axinn Award winner, had founded the now-closed website "Village of Crickets" with Iris. The purpose of that website was to increase engagement within the reading community.
Danielle works with Adelphi University in their MFA Program in the Creative Writing department.
"Women of Resistance" made the list of
Queer and Feminist Books To Read by the website Autostraddle in 2018.
This very powerful anthology includes contributions from over 40 different people. It is a diverse collection in not just its subject matter but also the writers and their prose.
Contributions to "Women of Resistance" include "Sally Ride Speaks to the Schoolgirls" by Laura Fairgrieve, "If 2017 was a Poem Title" by Mahogany L. Browne, and "An Open Letter to the Protestors Outside the Planned Parenthood Near My Job" by the award-winning author
Elizabeth Acevedo.
Danielle Barnhart won the Donald Everett Axinn Award for her poetry in 2015.
