Dan Crenshaw
Dan Crenshaw (Daniel Reed Crenshaw) was born on March 14th, 1984 and is currently 41 years old. Dan Crenshaw was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Crenshaw attended Tufts University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and Harvard University where he received a Master of Public Administration degree.
Dan Crenshaw is a politician and former US Navy SEAL officer that served as the US representative for Texas’ 2nd congressional district beginning in 2019. He’s a Republican Party member.
During his time at Tufts University, he joined the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and got an officer’s commission in the US Navy after he graduated. He got orders to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.
After 6 months of training, he graduated with BUD/S class 264. He finished SEAL qualification training in June of 2008 and got the 1130 designator as a Naval Special Warfare Officer, entitled to wear the Special Warfare Insignia.
He was a commissioned officer in the US Navy and he served on SEAL Team 3 in the War in Afghanistan, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander. He got wounded in action during his third deployment, which is where he lost his right eye to an IED.
Dan served as a legislative assistant to Representative Pete Sessions, and got elected to Congress in 2018.
During his time as a Navy SEAL, he was awarded 2 Bronze Star Medals, one with “V” device, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with valor, and the Purple Heart.
Fortitude: American Resilience in the Era of Outrage is a tough love leadership book from a rising star in Republican politics and a Navy SEAL.
During his 3rd tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2012, this roadside bomb took Dan’s right eye. When he learned to see again, he didn’t want people’s pity. He decided nobody should feel sorry for him, and shouldn’t fell sorry for themselves either. If we’re able to meet life’s toughest challenges without resenting our luck or complaining, minor daily obstacles aren’t worth the outrage.
Lighten up, toughen up, and get working on what’s important. It’s not giving into a culture of outrage, playing the victim, and looking for some sort of apology.
This is a no-nonsense advice book for a society desperately in need of tough love. With meditations of perseverance, finding much needed heroes, and failure, this book is an antidote for a prevailing “safety culture” of trigger warnings and safe spaces. Interspersed with advice and lessons is his own story about how an average American from the Houston suburbs has faced all kinds of unexpected situations (from the halls of Congress or war zones) and managed to navigate them all with just a few simple tricks: a sense of humor and an even better sense that no matter what anybody else around us does or says, we’re in control of our own destiny.
