Carter’s mystery thriller The Crucifix Killer is a novel that I happened by when I didn’t have anything to read and it was outstanding. Carter uses his experience as a criminal psychologist to perfection and manages to create some fleshed out characters with a fluid plot featuring excellent twists and turns that keep the audience guessing. Have read multiple novels of his quickly, which were each better than the previous one.

An Evil Mind is also an incredible psychological thriller and one of the absolute best in the genre with some well developed characters that have good reasons behind everything they do.

The author of this book worked as a criminal psychologist and interviewed many serial killers in his life. That background really shows throughout his list of books as that realism is almost too much at times.

You know what you’re in for when you read “The Crucifix Killer” which sees Hunter and his partner investigating a case with a woman who was skinned alive. It doesn’t get any better than that as the series goes on so maybe skip these if you’re squeamish.

If you’re not, get ready because this series will knock your socks off.

The first time I saw Chris Carter (his picture), I thought he looked like a rockstar. Finding out that he played with various glam rock bands did not surprise me. What came as a shock was the revelation that he worked as a criminal psychologist before turning his attention to music and publishing.

No matter how hard I stare at him, I just can’t see it. I cannot see the criminal psychologist hiding behind the rockstar façade. Though, if I’m being honest, it is evident in the Robert Hunter books.

You can see from the Hunter series that Carter understands the criminal mind. ‘The Crucifix’ was almost too violent for me. But I’m glad I persisted.

You can catch him on the Amazon Prime series “Evil Killers”, which I just recently stumbled on. It’s an excellent series and he’s on the episodes on the first and second seasons (there are a lot of seasons – but there are a lot of serial killers LOL). Anyway, that’s where you can really see his criminal psychologist talents. He really does understand the criminal mind.
