Brian Greene

Brian Greene (Brian Randolph Greene) was born on February 9th, 1963 and is currently 63 years old. Brian Greene was born in New York City, New York, USA.

Brian Greene is best known as a physicist who popularized string theory worldwide through his television programs and books.

As an adult, he joined Cornell University in New York as a member of the physics faculty. In 1996, he was made a full professor in the mathematics and physics department at Columbia University.

Brian was also appointed to various other posts, including his most impactful role as director of the Center for Theoretical Physics.

As a researcher, he was on the team that related two Calabi-Yau manifolds and co-discovered mirror symmetry. He also described a severe form of space transformation known as the flop transition.

As a professor, Brian Greene showcased a gift for drawing inspiration from everyday life to make abstract and complex theories more accessible. This would be the foundation for the massive success of the three-hour documentary The Elegant Universe on string theory, which he hosted.

The Elegant Universe would be adapted into a New York Times bestselling title and made the finals for the Pulitzer Prize.

In 1999, Brian Greene published The Elegant Universe, in which he explained one of the most popular questions in theoretical physics: how does the universe work? Greene describes string theory, which asserts that tiny vibrating strings are the building blocks of the universe. He also discusses unseen dimensions and how scientists seek theories, such as General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, to unify everything. He explains the development of String Theory through its various stages, using a range of examples to illustrate complex physics that may be hard for ordinary people to grasp or visualize.

In his next work, The Fabric of the Cosmos, Brian Greene examines questions of time and space among several other big questions about the universe. He explains how scientists understand the behaviour of time and space by drawing from concepts in modern physics. Brian examines concepts such as quantum physics, relativity, and the possibility that space may be made of tiny pieces rather than being smooth. Using simple examples and stories, he examines ideas such as parallel universes and time travel to explain complex science and to show how to arrive at the true structure of reality.

Eight years later, Brian Greene published the work The Hidden Reality to examine the concept that our universe may just be one of many. He explores a range of scientific theories from Quantum Mechanics and Cosmology, suggesting that there may be other parallel universes. He speaks to the different types of universes that may exist and how they might be just beyond the seen world.
