I love the fun, action-packed Roman tales that Anthony Riches writes. Some of my friends prefer quieter, more contemplative historical fiction. But I don’t understand that mindset.
Well, no, that isn’t true. I get it. But I also feel like every historical fiction novel I read these days is a deliberately paced crime fiction saga or drama that is more interested in unpacking the historical setting than in telling an exciting story.
Anthony’s books feel loud in my head because the wars are so exciting and violent. This is what I want. Give me Zack Snyder’s 300 instead of Pride and Prejudice.
Yes, that comparison doesn’t make sense. And Anthony’s books are not necessarily in the same vein as Snyder’s 300. But we are talking about my imagination. I can visualize the events he writes in any way I want.
