Angela Duckworth

Angela Duckworth (Angela Lee) was born in 1970 and is currently 56 years old. Angela Duckworth was born in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Duckworth attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Master of Arts degree and a PhD in psychology, the University of Oxford where she received a Master of Science degree in neuroscience and Harvard College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in neurobiology.

Angela Duckworth is best known as an Egbert Chang and Rosa Lee Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Wharton People Analytics co-director and a Penn-Wharton Behavior Change for Good Initiative co-director.

Before she got into academia, Angela Duckworth lived in New York, where she taught science and math in public high schools before and then worked as a consultant with McKinsey.

She worked on the profile of the case study for the Harvard Kennedy School and was the founder of a summer school for minority children.

Angela’s groundbreaking research shines a light on the combination of perseverance, passion, and self-control, which she believes are the key indicators of success, separate from IQ. She draws on research involving entrepreneurs, cadets at West Point, salespeople, finalists in the National Spelling Bee, and teachers.

In 2013, Angela Duckworth was the recipient of a MacArthur Genius Fellowship. She got the award for her work in explaining how non-cognitive traits impact achievement and learning.

Her TED Talk on grit in 2013 got millions of views and is one of the most-watched videos on the platform.

As a consultant, Angela Duckworth has worked with NFL teams, the NBA, and the World Bank, in addition to providing advice to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Working with organizations, policymakers, and educators, she has developed a reputation for blending real-world impact with scientific research.

In 2016, Angela Duckworth published her work Grit, in which she asserts that success is more about perseverance and passion rather than talent.

Based on years of research and drawing inspiration from her journey, she shows that the drive to achieve long-term objectives despite many setbacks is critical to goal-getting.

She blends interviews, science, and personal stories as she shares insights from finalists at the Spelling Bee, West Point cadets, and top performers such as coaches and CEOs to show that raw effort will more often than not beat raw ability.

It is a work that inspires parents, students, professionals, and athletes to push through challenges, stay committed, and develop grit so that they may achieve their biggest dreams.
