What a trainwreck of an ordeal. Naive girl, no life skills (intuition/common sense) incompetent police work, horrendous forensic techniques, corrupt prosecutor, the media doing what they do best, reporting lies not facts, etc…. What more could you ask for?
You hear a story in the news and follow the story over days, weeks, months, even years. Then you forget about the story. This is one of those stories I eventually forgot about.
While reading another non-fiction book, the author mentioned the Amanda Knox nightmare. I thought, oh yeah, I remember that. As I continued reading the story, I decided it would be interesting to read her (Knox) account of the incident.
I started reading her story. She was certainly open about her life before, during and after her ordeal. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “In the wrong place at the wrong time”? This was certainly Knox’s case. More than once. More Than twice. Many times.
The law enforcement agency that investigated this murder were a bunch of buffoons. They were a group of Inspector Clouseau’s, but not French. They investigated as if it was a third-world country. Their interrogation technique must have been taken straight from the 1940’s Hollywood cops and robber movies. Cops standing around a suspect yelling and slapping them.
I enjoyed the read but I can’t help but feel she (Knox) didn’t completely write this book. Sure, she lived the horror of the ordeal, but I can’t see her putting it on paper the way this book was written.
If you really want to get your blood boiling read “Trial by Fury” by Douglas Preston. It’s appalling how Knox was treated in social media.
