Alexandra Billings is an American teacher and singer. In 2005, she became one of TV's first transgender characters in Romy and Michele: In the Beginning. Billings is also well-known for portraying Davina in the Amazon series Transparent. Additionally, she has played transgender characters in various shows, including How to Get Away with Murder, The Conners, ER, Eli Stone, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Billings performed under the stage name Shante at Illinois' popular Baton Show Lounge during the early 1980s. She has won numerous beauty contests, earning titles such as Miss New York, Miss Illinois, Miss Wisconsin, Miss Chicago, and Miss Florida. She also served as a judge in the Miss Continental pageant in both 2000 and 2001.

Many of Billings’ works have been staged in Chicago theaters, including the Court Theater, The Bailiwick Theater, and Steppenwolf Theater, among others. She has collaborated with prominent authors such as Tina Landau, Larry Kramer, and Jamie Pachino. For her outstanding contributions to Chicago theater, Billings received five After Dark Awards and the Joseph Jefferson Award.

Billings has taught at Steppenwolf Summer School, the University of Chicago, Lewis University, the University of Illinois, and Act One Studios. She has also conducted workshops in Chicago. Currently, she is a theater professor at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Before this role, she was an assistant professor at California State University.

As a professional singer, Billings has performed in nightclubs and theaters across the United States. In 2004, she won the New York MAC Hanson Award as Cabaret Artist of the Year.
