Abu Bakr, one of eight kids, was just 10 years old when the violence started on the streets all around him: attacks on his school and mosque, car bombings, firebombings late at night. This tells about the odd juxtapositions of growing up in this war zone: unimaginable and horrific events that were punctuated by normalcy: friends, soccer, cousins, and video games.
Here is the remarkable true story about a young boy emerged out of a war zone, and found safety in Canada with this passion for sharing his story and telling the entire world what is actually going on in Syria. As told to her by Abu Bakr himself, writer Winnie Yeung has crafted this hopeful, heartbreaking, and urgently necessary read which provides a window into better understanding Syria.
