There are days when I feel like I’m a little too old for Alex Rider. I blame the covers. You can tell that Horowitz wrote these stories for teens and so-called young adults, which is a problem because I can’t stand YA.
Then again, I don’t think the Alex Rider series is YA. Admittedly, I don’t know what counts as YA. I still re-read Famous Five, and I don’t think you can classify that series as YA even though the characters are young.
I guess it doesn’t matter. People are drawn to interesting stories, and Anthony Horowitz uses the Alex Rider series to tell interesting stories. I would have loved Alex Rider in my teens. I still enjoy the series. But I think I appreciate it for different reasons because I have a mature perspective.
