Each of the novels in the Goldy Bear series make me hungry and want to cook something. They are delightful reads and manage to stay light, even while touching on controversial topics. The novels also keep you on the edge of your seat with a compelling mystery and Goldie and her clan are beloved characters by this point.
Diane delivers novels time and time again that are so easy to jump into and escape from everyday issues. Here’s hoping that The Whole Enchilada is not the last in the series and she will still give us new books with Goldie and company.
I worked as a caterer in my twenties so the Goldy Schulz series holds a special place in my heart. While I was catering there were never any murders to investigate or anything like that, but it would’ve been a lot more interesting if there was. That job was boring!
The first book I read on this list of books was “Catering to Nobody”, the first book in the Goldy series.
Goldy is catering a wake when he ex-father-in-law collapses and dies. The finger is pointed at her for poisoning him and she’ll need to clear herself. Obviously, she didn’t do it (have you ever read a book where that happened?) and she’ll need to work fast before the cops slap the cuffs on her.
I don’t remember the last time I read a series as quickly as I did the Goldy Schulz books. Davidson had written ten of them by the time I discovered her. I read them all before book 11 came out.
To be fair, they are small books. I am accustomed to reading 1000-page monsters. Three hundred pages are barely a challenge. That being said, I cannot deny the fact that the series hooked me.
I can’t be the only person who lost his mind when we learned that Marla and Goldy had the same abusive ex-husband? How does that even happen to best friends? Can you imagine the potential for conflict that relationship creates? This series was a hoot. I had fun with it.
I discovered this series long after the last book was published and ran through it rather quickly. I could not get enough of Goldy and the murders she managed to cook up while catering. I don’t like cooking but this series made dream of owning a catering business! LOL!
