Yaba Blay
Yaba Blay was born on December 12th, 1974 and is currently 50 years old. Yaba Blay was born in Ghana, West Africa. Blay attended Salisbury State University where she received a B.A. in psychology (cum laude), the University of New Orleans where she received an M.Ed. in counseling psychology and Temple University where she received a Ph.D. in African American studies with a Graduate Certificate in women's studies.
Yaba Blay is better known as a producer, public speaker, and scholar. She became famous for her work on black identity and colorism particularly her novel
One Drop which she published in 2021.
She is widely respected as a thought leader on the Black experience in the United States and across the world. She has been known to speak on global stages on a range of topics such as beauty politics, skin bleaching, and colorism, in addition to a bunch of creative projects.
Over the years, she has amassed a list of prestigious clients that range from New York University, Harvard University, Spelman College, and Duke University. In the corporate world, she has worked with organizations such as My Black is Beautiful, Netflix, Procter & Gamble, and Unilever among others.
In 2012, Yaba Blay worked on
Who is Black in America, a television documentary on
CNN. She has been featured on the likes of

The New York Times,
Colorlines,

Essence. Her social media activism has been praised by
O Magazine and she has also worked on several campaigns on Blackness.
Yaba’s commentary and likeness have been featured in a
National Museum of African American History and Culture installation titled
A Changing America: 1968 and Beyond.
Blay has worked at North Carolina Central University where she taught Political Science. She has also taught at the faculties of Lafayette College, and Lehigh University, and served as the Africana Studies program director at Drexel University.
Yaba Blay published her first work
One Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race in 2021. The work looks into how historical definitions of race continue to define modern racial identities and the lived experiences of many people.
It has more than 60 contributors from more than two dozen nationalities who all see themselves as part of the larger social, cultural, and racial group referred to as Black.
They all explore identity through their varied experiences, as they have all questioned their identity since they do not fit into the full-lipped, broad-nosed kinky-haired, and dark-skinned stereotype.
