Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27th, 1822. Ulysses passed away July 23rd, 1885 at 63 years old. Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, United States.

Ulysses S. Grant was best known as an author, soldier, and leader who would also become the 18th president of the United States.

As a child, he spent much of his time helping his family, fishing, and riding horses. He was particularly skilled at the latter and was described as a confident handler, which is an attribute that he kept for most of his life.

While Ulysses Grant achieved much success later in life, he faced many setbacks in his endeavours as a young adult. He failed as a farmer and struggled in business, and eventually had to return to work at the family’s leather goods store due to financial difficulties.

However, everything changed during the Civil War, when he proved himself a capable and determined military commander. Rather than showmanship, his focus was on endurance, strategy, and action, which got him praise from superiors and overall command over the Union Armies.

After the Civil War, Ulysses Grant was elected the 18th president of the United States. During his tenure, he rebuilt the US following years of conflict, even as he supported the rights of former slaves and fought the rise of the Ku Klux Klan.

When his family’s investment firm ran into severe financial trouble, he became an author, writing his memoirs to help out his loved ones. Despite serious illness, he completed his personal memoirs before his death in 1885.

In his posthumously published 2018 work My Dearest Julia, Ulysses Grant put together a collection of personal letters written to Julia Dent Grant, his wife, between 1844 and 1865.

The letters reveal Grant's personality on and off the battlefield. The work tells of his thoughts as the Civil War grew more brutal and longer, his intense loneliness having left his family behind, and his fears during the Mexican War.

The show portrays Grant as a devoted husband and military leader who faced numerous challenges and uncertain times.

In the 2020 published work, Collected State of the Union Addresses of Ulysses S. Grant, the authors bring together eight annual addresses by the president during his eight-year presidency.

Ulysses discussed the challenges the United States faced after the Civil War. He emphasized the importance of strengthening foreign relations, rebuilding the nation, managing national debt, protecting the rights of former slaves, and improving the economy.

The collection also gave insights into his perspectives on government reform, Native American policy, and westward expansion.

Ulysses Grant’s memoirs were published as The Complete Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant in 2021.

The work detailed his military career and early life, from his boyhood through leadership during the Civil War, experiences in the Mexican War, and his time in the army.

He explained the challenges of leading soldiers through long, difficult campaigns, the military decisions, and the major battles.
