Truman Capote: TV/Movies Based on Books

The most famous film based on the work of Capote has to be Breakfast at Tiffany's. The Capote novella's adaptation was a critical and commercial success, winning two Academy Awards. Audrey Hepburn starred as Holly Golightly and became one of the most iconic characters of all time for the role. The movie is also famous for the use of the song "Moon River" which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

A short story by Capote called "Children on Their Birthdays" was turned into a film of the same name in 2002. The independent film starred Tom Arnold, Jesse Plemons, and Sheryl Lee.

"The Glass House" was another Capote story turned into a movie. The made-for-television film aired on CBS and starred Alan Alda, Vic Morrow, and Billy Dee Williams.

In 1995, Capote's novella The Grass Harp was turned into a film. Charles Matthau directed Piper Laurie, Sissy Spacek, Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, and Edward Furlong in the film.

In Cold Blood was first made into a film in 1967 starring Robert Blake. The film has gotten incredible reviews over the years and was nominated for four Academy Awards. The writing and research for that book by Capote was also made into two films. 2005's Capote starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman and 2006's Infamous.

One Christmas was a made-for-TV movie based on a short story of the same name. The film starred Katharine Hepburn and Henry Winkler with Hepburn being nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role.
