Despite that adoration by critics, the show was never nominated for any major awards. Tom Perrotta returned to HBO with a series based on his book Mrs. Fletcher. The series starred Kathryn Hahn as Eve Fletcher, Jackson White as Brendan Fletcher, and Domenick Lombardozzi as George. The show was well received by critics, but did not air past the first season and its initial seven episodes. Election was the first of Perrotta's books to be adapted into a film. The 1999 film was directed by Alexander Payne with a screenplay written by Payne and Jim Taylor. The film starred Matthew Broderick as Jim McAllister and Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick. The book was a major critical success and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Film in 1999. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Little Children was the second of Perrotta's novels to be adapted into a film and the second to receive awards consideration. The 2006 film directed by Todd Field earned three Academy Award nominations: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Actress. Teh screenplay was written by Field and Perotta himself. The film starred Kate Winslet as Sarah Pierce, Patrick Wilson as Brad Adamson, Jennifer Connelly as Kathy Adamson, and Jackie Earle Haley as Ronald James "Ronnie" McGorvey. As mentioned, Winslet and Earle Haley each received Award nominations for their works.
