The Ladies' Killing Circle

The Ladies Killing Circle is a group of women authors mostly from Ottawa. The authors got together in 1992 where they began critiquing each other's work before they started working on the editorial board for a bunch of critically acclaimed and very popular anthologies.

The group was founded by Audrey Jessup who brought together more than forty-eight women to publish stories in the Ladies Killing Circle anthologies.

The LKC would become a launching pad for the authors to make very successful writing careers as most have published novels and short stories in other spaces too. Linda Wiken, Joan Boswell, Mary Jane Maffini, and Barbara Fradkin are all authors of novel series.

The stories in the series range from darkly brooding titles to mystery and laugh-out-loud tales. In 2012, The Ladies’ Killing Circle won the Grant Allen Award for contributions to Canadian crime and mystery writing.

Fit to Die is a collection of poetry, in addition to witty and wicked crime fiction by The Ladies’ Killing Circle. From the golf course to the gym to what was supposed to be a tranquil practice of martial arts, revenge, and murder will not bow down to the human quest for immortality through fitness.

Bone Dance is a collection of wicked and witty crime fiction in which music offers the backdrop to stories of mayhem and murder. There are eighteen stories from the Ladies’ Killing Circle group alongside some poetry from Joy Hewitt Mann that draws inspiration from pop music.

The Ladies’ Killing Circle published Going Out With a Bang in 2008 in which they bring together everything from the thud of a body coming down the stairs, the chaos of a train wreck, or the boom of drums. Hewitt Mann also makes an appearance in poems and stories that will entertain, chill, or blow their readers away.
