One of the best things about Tami Hoag is that she makes use of all manner of complex and different characters in her crime fiction novels.
Unlike many novelist it is never so obvious who the villain is and this is something I always like in a mystery novel. Since I read so many thrillers I tend to figure out the killer fast but not with Hoag.
Ashes to Ashes is one of the best Tami Hoag novels ever written. The author writes about a serial killer so twisted that some of the best real life villains such as the Ripper would be ashamed. I found myself enjoying how the experts were getting the runaround until they finally stumbled on a clue.
Hoag does just as well in Prior Bad Acts as he creates some likable, believable and interesting characters that are juxtaposed with some awful bad guys. With tons of turns and twists and a satisfying ending that comes with unresolved story lines, that I could not get enough of the thrilling novel.
I do think Tami Hoag just keeps getting better with each successive novel and series that she writes.
Tami Hoag is one of those authors that tends to fly under the radar. Yes, she has sold millions of copies of her books. However, people don’t talk about her as often as I would expect. Or maybe my reading group is the problem.
I started reading her books because I heard that she had 13 consecutive bestsellers, which is impressive. I wanted to know whether she deserved the hype.
Her novels met my expectations. She tells interesting stories filled with characters that are not always likable, which is surprising. Also, I am yet to read a Tami Hoag novel where I guessed the killer’s identity before she revealed it.
