I knew I was in great hands with this author when a review spoiled sections of ‘Black Dog’ for me, yet I still enjoyed it. I love police procedurals. But Booth’s novels are not your average police procedurals.

They tick all the right boxes. However, Booth tends to ramble, but in a good way. He takes the time to explore the thoughts, insights, and emotions of each character, and he does this in great detail.

It makes the stories far more engaging because you don’t want to skim Booth’s words. Each paragraph has so many layers, so much information that you want to take a moment to savor every page. I rarely see this approach in the genre.
