What is Scott Blade’s deal? I can’t answer that question. Some people have outrightly accused him of ripping off Jack Reacher. The similarities are difficult to ignore. Though, you could argue that he simply took inspiration.
Also, while Reacher popularized the concept, the market is saturated with stories about drifters with special skills fighting crime. In that regard, Scott’s books are nothing new.
I spoke to a friend who said that the similarities between the Jack Reacher and Jack Widow books were intentional. I don’t know if that is true. But I don’t really care either.
I have chosen to stay away from that conversation because Scott’s novels tick one very important box. They are highly entertaining. I can’t ask for more. I read the first ten within a month.
I encourage everyone to do the same. The books are small and quite easy to binge. Think of them as a long-running TV series. Consuming them en masse is surprisingly satisfying.
I recently discovered Scott Blade, and the first work I read was the Jack widow series. She is a great suspense writer, and Gone forever was a great kick-off of the series. The series is a lot like Jack Reacher in so many ways. Blade knows how to play with words to keep the reader entertained while adding the right amount of action and adventure. Her Character development is always on point, and Jack Widow’s fighting techniques are superb. I’m currently reading The Midnight Caller novel, the seventh in the series, and I hope I will be through with the list of books by the end of the year.
