Sara Rosett tricked me with ‘Death in the English Countryside.’ It was the first book of hers that I read. But rather than a suspenseful mystery, I was treated to a romantic suspense novel. That sounds like a complaint, and it was at the start.
But you know what? I was thoroughly entertained. I knew where the story was going 2/3rds of the way through, but I was so engaged that I kept reading. And the climax did not disappoint.
‘Murder At Archly Manor’ was even better. After ‘Death in the English Countryside,’ I took a break from Rosett for a few months before diving back into her work. But that break was unnecessary because her books are so short. I read ‘Murder At Archly Manor’ in a day.
Not only was it the crime mystery I wanted, but it captured my vision of the early 1920s accurately. The mystery was excellent. But in this case, it was more of a bonus than the main attraction. These days, I read one Sara Rosett novel a week. I am trying to pace myself. I don’t want to finish them too quickly.
