Richard Dawkins

Richard Dawkins (Clinton Richard Dawkins) was born on March 26th, 1941 and is currently 85 years old. Richard Dawkins was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Dawkins attended Balliol College, Oxford University where he received a MA degree and a DPhil degree.

Richard Dawkins is known for writing in the Non-Fiction genre.

Richard Dawkins is a prominent evolutionary biologist and debater known for promoting the view that genes are central to evolution, in addition to his outspoken atheist beliefs.

He gained fame with the publication of The Selfish Gene in 1976, in which he posited that evolution is not about individuals or species, but rather a process in which genes strive to survive. Known for making concepts easily understandable, Dawkins emphasized the non-random and gradual nature of evolution.

As a professor of Oxford championing the public understanding of science, Dawkins was often invited to make educational TV documentaries and programs. Some of the programs he made include The Genius of Charles Darwin and Break the Science Barrier.

In 2006, he published The God Delusion, in which he promoted a secular worldview and argued and challenged religious beliefs about the universe. The book became a bestseller and placed him alongside other prominent atheists such as Christopher Hitchens.

It was soon after the publishing of his book that he also founded the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.

He continues to promote science through his memoirs and other books, and while he is a very controversial figure, he is still one of the most respected figures in discussions about rationalism, religion, and science.

In 2003, Richard Dawkins published the work A Devil’s Chaplain, which is a collection of his reflections on his professional and personal life.

In the work, he revisits the meme that he first introduced in The Selfish Gene. He also offers tributes to colleagues and friends, shares his letters with Stephen Jay Gould, the evolutionary biologist, and tells of the time he spent with Richard and Maeve Leakey, the famous paleoanthropologists.

He also includes a note to his daughter, who was then 10, asking her to live an examined life, ask questions, and always be curious.
A year later, he published the work The Ancestor’s Tale.

In the work, he provides a tour through evolution starting from the present day and going back to the beginning of life, billions of years in the distant past. Throughout his quest, he throws in stories that offer insight into topics such as extinction, sexual selection, and speciation.

In 2006, Richard Dawkins published The God Delusion, the book that he has become most known for.

In the work, he asserts that religion has resulted in grievous harm for centuries, even as he asserts that belief in God is irrational. He examines the institution of God from the Old Testament to the Enlightenment prototype favored by thinkers in the Enlightenment.

He challenges the major arguments for religion using modern and historical evidence, even as he puts forth the many advantages of atheism to society and the individual. He asserts that atheism results in a truer and clearer appreciation of the wonders of the universe.
