From 1957 to 1959, he served in the Royal Air Force, and went to work for a London publisher for four years, before he and his wife emigrated to America in 1962, where they lived on Long Island.

Raymond, according to one of his books, was the first person in the US to openly admit to being a Wicca practitioner, and introduced the lineage of Gardenerian Wicca to the US in 1964, after he’d been initiated by Monique Wilson (Gerald Gardner’s then-high priestess) in Britain the previous year. Later, he formed his own tradition dubbed Seax-Wicca focusing on the symbolism of Anglo-Saxon paganism.
