Spare was an interesting read. There are doubters out there that question the validity of what Harry presents in the book. I tend to believe what he’s saying based on the firm’s general attitude and its actions in the past. It is indeed sad that publishing a novel may be the only way to get the truth out there.
As I read Prince Harry’s autobiography, Spare, all I could think about were the years of hateful stories told by the British press about Harry and his wife. Imagine, the media seemed to be implying, a member of the Royal family who was fighting back about not just negative press but cruel, racist and unrelenting press. How dare he! Harry wasn’t perfect. He struggled to find his way in life. Eventually, he found someone with whom he wanted to share his life, Meghan. From the beginning of their relationship, the press dug deep in their bucket of hate and let Meg and Harry have it. I’ll admit that, as an American, I do not understand the British press, at all. It seems as if it’s free to write whatever it wants, no matter if it’s false or nasty. There are those who don’t think Harry should have discussed conversations he’d had with his less than helpful family in the book. To me, he needed to include those specific examples to show what really happened behind the false headlines. If he hadn’t, critics would have complained that he wasn’t giving enough details or proof. I recommend reading the book yourself. I would never want someone to simply accept what I think– everyone has a right to decide for themselves how they feel about something.
