Pete Egoscue
Pete Egoscue is best known for his Egoscue Method Clinic, based in San Diego. The clinic uses a unique posture-based therapy to resolve chronic musculoskeletal pain.
It was during the 1970s that he began experimenting with new approaches for managing pain. This was after he came back from fighting in Vietnam and had to deal with chronic nerve pain that did not ease even with traditional medical treatment.
Frustrated with his symptoms, Pete Egoscue started studying the design of the human body and soon found that postural imbalance is behind most pain. With the belief that the body is designed perfectly and can self-heal when properly aligned, he developed a series of structured exercises to enhance mobility, reduce pain, and restore balance.
In the 1970s, he founded his San Diego-based clinic and established the method that would become an internationally recognized program for postural therapy. Today, dozens of affiliated clinics have licensed the approach to treat pain from workplace stress, repetitive strain injuries, and aging.
Egoscue has become known as a leading anatomical physiologist, focusing on the regenerative power of aligned posture and functional design. His disciplined and empathetic approach has been used by professionals and athletes to achieve restored function and remarkable recovery.
In 1999, Pete Egosque published the work
Pain Free at Your PC, in which she advises on how to cure and prevent common computer-related pains such as carpal tunnel, back, and neck pain.
Egoscue asserts that computer use should not be about challenging the body but the mind. She shows how people can avoid chronic pain without expensive ergonomic gear, drugs, and surgery.
Through posture adjustments and exercises, she demonstrates how computer users can maintain their health and comfort, and eliminate harmful motion patterns and repetitive stress injuries.
Next, Pete published
Pain Free for Women, in which she provides an exercise program to help women restore strength, flexibility, and relieve chronic pain.
Written for women, the book addresses issues related to joint discomfort, stamina, neck and back pain, while also promoting better muscle engagement, posture, and balance.
It emphasizes that proper alignment and motion can enhance sex drive, prevent injuries, improve immune function, and boost energy.
In
Pain Free Living, which he published in 2011, Pete Egoscue offers a novel approach to managing musculoskeletal pain that avoids resorting to surgery or medication.
Drawing from postural therapy, he employs personalized exercises and stretches to restore proper body alignment and strengthen muscles.
Outside of his work in physiology, Egoscue has been known to incorporate insights from Eastern medicine to deal with emotional and mental aspects of pain.
Egoscue’s system helps patients heal through a process that feels more natural and encourages them to trust their sensations.
