If you’ve read ‘All Things Great and Small,’ Patrick Taylor’s Irish Country novels are similar. However, instead of a vet, you have a young doctor working as an apprentice to an eccentric mentor in a cozy village.
There is a sameness to these books that I appreciate. Normally, I can’t stand character-driven stories with a slower pace. But Patrick has a way of keeping me comfortably rooted in the simple moments.
His books have an effortless charm. You can’t help but enjoy the soothing rhythm of the village his characters call home. Usually, it would only take a few chapters for me to start complaining about the absence of action and the sort of drama that turns your stomach.
But that has yet to happen with Patrick. I appreciate his gentle style.
