Noel Barber was a journalist that traveled to many exotic places. Noel reported from Morocco, where he was stabbed five times, he survived a gunshot wound to the head by a Soviet sentry in Hungary during the Hungarian revolution, and eventually a car crash ended his career in journalism. Noel then became a novelist in his seventies when he wrote his debut novel Tanamara.
Noel Barber's novel titled Tanamara was adapted into a TV series titled Tanamera – Lion of Singapore and aired in 1989. Another one of Noel's novels titled The Other Side of Paradise was filmed for TV in 1992 and had the same title.
