Natalie Angier

Natalie Angier was born on February 16th, 1958 and is currently 68 years old. Natalie Angier was born in The Bronx, New York, USA. Angier attended the University of Michigan and Barnard College.

Natalie Angier is a nonfiction writer and science journalist for The New York Times. She is also noted for her own public identification as an atheist, for which she received the 2003 Freedom from Religion Foundation’s Emperor Has No Clothes Award.

Natalie started her writing career as a technical writer for Texas Instruments. She then was hired as a founding staff member ofDiscover Magazine in 1980 and primarily wrote about animal behavior and evolutionary biology during the four years she spent there.

She joined The New York Times as a science writer in 1990. In 1991, Natalie won the Pulitzer Prize for Beat Reporting, and in 1992 she received the AAAS Westinghouse Science Journalism Award.

She believes that when it comes to science, it belongs to every single one of us and should be a part of our daily discourse.

Her family would spend two weeks out of the year in the Catskills, and the night sky was something which always astonished her. This comes as she lived in a Bronx neighborhood where she would be more likely to see police helicopters than stars overhead. She’d have been an astronomer, however she learned early on that she probably was not a born scientist.

Natalie’s writing has appeared in online and in print magazines like National Geographic, The American Scholar, GEO, The Atlantic, Parade, Washington Monthly, Slate, Smithsonian, among others.

The Beauty of the Beastly is an awe inspiring tour of nature. Natalie has gone to great lengths to learn her science from the molecule up. She knows all that scientists (sometimes even more) about the brutal courting habits of dolphins, about the power of symmetry in sexual relations, about the grand deceit of orchids, and all about the impact of male and female preferences on evolution.

This book takes the pulse of everything from supple structure of DNA to the erotic ways of queen bees, barn swallows, and the endangered, otherworldly primate known as the aye-aye.

Few writers have ever covered this many facets of biology so evocatively in a single book. Natalie has been called one of the wittiest and strongest writers in the world today.

Woman is a look at the science of the female body. It’s an essential guide to everything from orgasms to organs and hysterectomies to hormones. Natalie, with her characteristic insight and clarity, cuts through the still-prevalent myths and misinformation that surrounds the female body, which are the most enigmatic of evolutionary masterpieces.

Along with earning a nomination for the National Book Award,Woman was named one of the best books of the year by NPR, the Chicago Tribune, People, and the Los Angeles Times, among others.
