Lynda LaPlante’s novel Judas Horse is a great read. Loved how Jack does his Robin Hood bit and helps out Mario and Regina. It is a very suspenseful and tense read. Her characters are complex and interesting and these locations (as well as the inhabitants) are well described. The title is apt and rather intriguing, describing some burglars in the novel.
Blunt Force is another novel I liked of hers. She goes into plenty of detail, and the novel is a good old fashioned police procedural where Lynda doesn’t feel the need to have a big bang up of an ending, which makes this feel that much more realistic.
I am grateful to Lynda La Plante for introducing Helen Mirren to me. These days, people know her from Hollywood blockbusters like The Fast and the Furious. But when I met her, Mirren was Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in ‘Prime Suspect.’
I watched every episode of that show during my teenage years. During my college years, I discovered that Lynda La Plante, the creator of ‘Prime Suspect,’ had also written several crime fiction novels.
I was planning to read them. But my life took a hectic turn, and I forgot about them. Last year, I started rewatching ‘Prime Suspect,’ which gave me the impetus to finally buy the Anna Travis books.
I saw a review that called Anna Travis the new Jane Tennison. I don’t know if I agree with the comparison. But I’ve only read one Anna Travis novel. I may change my mind in the next few months.
