When it comes to writing gritty mystery, thriller, and police procedural novels, Lisa Regan is the real master. I admire how she creates strong, tough, and courageous female characters. Vanishing Girls is the debut in my favorite Detective Josie Quinn series. I love how Lisa develops intense, fast-paced, and heart-pounding tales with lies, secrets, and shocking scenes that leave me wanting more. Lisa writes short chapters with a storyline that flows so quickly as she vividly portrays the characters. Claire Fletcher Mystery series was also fascinating, where the author’s psychological insight into the characters makes the story more intriguing. The alternating point of view in ‘Kill For You novel’ will keep the reader on the edge of their seat as Lisa Regan takes us on the roller coaster ride.
I agree with all you said and couldn’t say it better myself. I’ve just read the first book in the Detective Josie Quinn series and can’t wait to get started on the second one. I rated it a solid 10!!!
Lisa Regan’s bibliography is filled with strong, interesting heroines, an attribute few authors can boast about. Female characters are a difficult nut to crack. That statement is controversial in some circles, but it’s true.
People think that female characters have to be brutish and violent to be strong. However, authors that have fallen into that trap quickly realize that their heroines are not strong. They are simply replicas of brutish male characters.
Regan understands that her heroines can be feminine and strong. Additionally, she doesn’t forget to make them interesting. Most of them are haunted figures with complex physical and mental barriers to overcome. But they are not so haunted that their stories become a slog. Regan is good at her job. She knows how to create balanced characters.
Yep! I’m still at it. This is going to turn into my favorite author of this genre. I can’t stress enough that she gets the story told without what I call filler information. And, don’t think for a minute that you’re going to figure out what is going to happen. I get taken by surprise all the way through the book. I’m on my 3rd Josie Quinn series and I’m not getting much sleep because of these books. I just can hardly put them down.
As I work my way through this series with very little sleep at night (in a good way), I highly recommend this series. This author gives new meaning to “not being able to put the book down”. Since the books are of substantial size, there is no way you can finish it in one sitting but it doesn’t stop you from trying. I can’t recommend this series more as I believe it is one of those series that you will be waiting for the next book. I do wonder if her other series are like this one.
