I almost fell out of my chair when I learned that Len Deighton was in his 90s. His spy novels don’t feel all that dated. I mean, yes, they feel dated, but I thought that was on purpose.

His characters, on the other hand, have a relatability that is comparable to any modern hero. I have had a blast discovering the author behind some of my favorite spy novels. I don’t know if everyone knew of his passion for food.

Believe it or not, I am sorely tempted to buy his cooking books. I don’t think any other reader has had the pleasure of trying a recipe from a cookbook written by their favorite spy fiction author.
