Leah Goldstein
Leah Goldstein is a pro Canadian-Israeli road racing cyclist, a 1989 World Bantamweight Kickboxing Champion and a 1998 Israeli Duathlon Champion. In 2021, she made a world record as the first woman to win the overall solo division for the Race Across America.
In 2016, Goldstein published
No Limits, which explores the life of a truly inspiring individual whose life spans through different disciplines, challenges and achievements. The story follows Goldstein as she prepares for and participates in the Race Across America, a 3,000-mile ultra-endurance cycling competition. She also has some reflections on her childhood and early development. Goldstein uses a back-and-forth structure and effectively connects her formative experiences to the resilience and determination she later displays in her career.
Goldstein’s story is one of the most remarkable stories you’ll ever read. She begins as a young athlete who excels in Taekwondo, then transitions to kickboxing and becomes a world champion in her division. Her journey then transitions into military service in Israel and into undercover law enforcement work before ultimately switching to a career in competitive cycling, where she became one of the best ultra-endurance cyclists in the world.
What makes this book unique is how Goldstein portrays her never-ending drive, dedication, and pushing beyond the physical and psychological limits, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improvement. She highlights the rigorous training she underwent and the strict discipline which form part of personal sacrifices behind elite performances.
Goldstein is honest in whatever she delivers in this book. She openly discusses the challenges and personal struggles that came alongside her achievements and does inspire, but does so without being preachy by allowing action and experience to convey its motivational power.
The collaboration between Goldstein and Moger results in a polished and compelling narrative. In the end, Goldstein is an inspiring and memorable read that celebrates determination, discipline and personal growth.
