Before Lauren Delauney Miller became a well-known journalist, she worked with the
Yosemite National Park Search and Rescue team as a first responder. During this time, she became known for combining passionate storytelling with on-the-ground adventure.
In 2022, Lauren DeLauney Miller published her debut work,
Valley of Giants, in which she tells the story of about forty women who shaped the climbing history of Yosemite.
The work spans over 100 years and features archival materials, interviews, and essays that showcase the lives of both little-known and well-known pioneers. From the hand-made pitons of BeaVogel to the legendary ascents of Lynn Hill, it is all there.
Lauren showcases the risks, achievements, and reflections of the climbers who showcase the spirit of Yosemite. It is a tribute to the skill and determination of female climbers, even as it provides unique perspectives on what it means to climb, live, and make a home in Yosemite.
