Larry Burkett
Larry Burkett was born on March 3rd, 1939. Larry passed away July 4th, 2003 at 64 years old. Larry Burkett was born in Winter Park, Florida, USA. Burkett attended Rollins College where he received a marketing degree and a finance degree.
Larry Burkett was a radio personality whose work focused on financial counseling from a Christian perspective.
He published over 70 books, with sales exceeding 11 million copies, including numerous national bestsellers. He also launched three widely syndicated radio programs:
How to Manage Your Money,
Money Matters, and
MoneyWatch, along with a series of short features titled
A Money Minute. These programs have been broadcast on over 1,100 radio outlets worldwide.
Before his media and ministry work, Burkett worked in the space program at Cape Canaveral. During that time, he earned degrees in finance and marketing from Rollins College. He was in charge of an experimental test facility that supported the Gemini, Mercury, and Apollo crewed space programs.
In 1970, Larry left the Space Center to become vice president of an electronics manufacturing firm. Then in 1972, he became an evangelical Christian—an event that had a profound impact on his life. The following year, he left the electronics company to join the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ as a financial counselor. It was there that he met Austin Pryor, Ron Blue, and other financial experts. Inspired, he began a deep study of biblical principles for handling money and started teaching small groups across the country.
In 1976, Larry left campus ministry to form Christian Financial Concepts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching people biblical principles of financial stewardship.
In 2000, Christian Financial Concepts merged with Crown Ministries to create Crown Financial Ministries. Burkett served as chairman of the board of directors until his passing.
In recognition of his work, Southwest Baptist University conferred on Larry an honorary doctorate in economics in May 1996.
Money Matters Workbook for Teens (Ages 11–14) opens with a provocative question: Why would a teen need to manage their money if they don’t have much to begin with?
It sounds reasonable—but it’s not.
Consider that the average American teen spends $3,000 each year. By the time you graduate high school, that adds up to $21,000. Do you even know where you’re spending it?
Even though $3,000 a year is likely far less than your parents spend, you should still be able to:
- Have money to do fun things with your friends
- Pay fair prices for quality items
- Stay out of debt
- Give to causes that make a difference
- Avoid getting ripped off by misleading ads or salespeople
- Save for a car, college, or your own business
Todd Temple and Larry Burkett will show you how to take control of your own money. You'll learn skills that will help you now—and prepare you for a successful financial future. Just imagine what could happen when you start spending your money more wisely while you’re still a teen.
