I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that Judy Blume has no equal in her field. I read the Fudge books at the right age. I had a new sibling and I couldn’t understand why my parents kept fawning over her.
And then Fudge was there and he kind of understood me. Then Margaret came along and I was blown away. Back in school, it felt like everyone was reading ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’ because it was all me and my friends could talk about.
I think Blume’s gift is her ability to communicate honestly. Many of her readers are young but she never talks down to them. When you’re the age of her characters, her stories make you feel validated.

Love Judy Blume since the 80’s when I was a kid. My kids enjoyed her books in the 2000’s! Her characters are so relatable, especially when it came to facing challenges of growing up.

I know she has written many books for older children but I have never read one of them. However, I did read Summer Sisters and loved it. What a great story of friendship and how it can make you feel wonderful and hurt you at the same time.
