It was directed by Lawrence Blume, Judy's son, and featured Willa Holland in the starring role. Despite the large amount of books sold in her career this was the first book by Blume to be adapted into a major motion picture. One of Blume's most famous works is Are You There God? It's Me Margaret and this was finally adapted for a film that releases in 2023. The movie stars Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Benny Saffdie, and Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret.
