Based on the handful of Joseph Conrad books I’ve read, I rank him high on my list of favorite dead authors—and this despite the fact that I’m not really into books set upon the sea! But his style of writing is so engaging, he’s really hard to put down. Oftentimes, his “plot” is more the telling of the tale than the tale itself, so I imagine him as a fine playwright as well as novelist.
