Jordan Belfort
Jordan Belfort (Jordan Ross Belfort) was born on July 9th, 1962 and is currently 62 years old. Jordan Belfort was born in Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. Belfort attended American University where he received a BSc degree in biology.
Jordan Belfort is an American former stockbroker, businessman, and convicted financial criminal. He is the man who motivated the blockbuster film
The Wolf of Wall Street, which was adapted from
The Wolf of Wall Street, the memoir that he published in 2007.
Belfort spent his childhood in Queens, New York where he showcased a penchant for business when he was still very young. During that time, he used to run a business selling water ice desserts from Styrofoam coolers near his home. In the summer between college and high school, Jordan and his friend earned $20,000.
As a young man, Jordan Belfort was a door-to-door salesman in Long Island. Soon enough, he got a team and sold tons of seafood and meat. When his business failed, he got a job with a stockbroking firm and by the time he was 30, he founded
Stratton Oakmont, a stock brokerage firm that was also a massive success.
Belfort’s firm committed many frauds and scams including pressuring investors to put their money in speculative securities and pump-and-dump schemes that involved penny stocks. The firm was shut down in 1996 and Belfort and his right-hand man were charged with securities fraud and money laundering.
In 1999, he pleaded guilty to committing fraud and other crimes related to stock market manipulation, including running a fraudulent penny-stock operation. He took a deal with the FBI and wore a wire, which provided testimony against his partners and employees involved in the fraud scheme. Belfort was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
In 2007, he published a memoir,
The Wolf of Wall Street, which was adapted for the big screen in 2013, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort.
In the book, Belfort shares the wild details of his shady career in the stock market with blunt and colorful language. At a young age, Belfort operated a brokerage firm on Long Island named Stratton Oakmont. The firm had a respectable name but was anything but honest, regularly engaging in illegal activities such as manipulating stocks, scamming clients, and hiding money. Belfort, a smooth-talking leader, made millions of dollars through these devious schemes. The wealth acquired financed an over-the-top lifestyle characterized by luxury homes, drugs, yachts, parties, private jets, and trophy wives for his partners.
Despite claiming to be in love with his (now ex) wife and kids, Belfort's focus was mostly on drugs and endless love affairs. He describes his family vividly and doesn’t shy away from explaining the shady characters around him, including crooked business partners and a Swiss forger nicknamed Mad Max. The memoir also includes wild escapades like car crashes, drug binges, a storm at sea, and even a sick child.
He terms his story a “cautionary tale” as it is crude, outrageous, and truly shocking. It’s also highly entertaining. His literary prose is sharp, making this book a gripping thriller. The story ends with his arrest and his sentencing to a 22-month term in prison.
Jordan Belfort published
Catching the Wolf of Wall Street, his second novel in 2009. In this work, he tells of how the FBI raided his estate and how he made a deal to rat out his colleagues and friends. He tells of how he ruined his marriage and empire, even as he tried to navigate a gauntlet of lawyers and judges.
In 2017, Jordan Belfort gave access to his exclusive systems that made him one of the most successful salesmen ever in the book
The Way of the Wolf. He lets his readers behind the curtain and into how to persuade, bounce back from setbacks, and build wealth. All of these are backed by real-life experiences and anecdotes from Belfort’s life.
In
Wolf of Investing, Belfort compares what he terms risky gambling and smart investing. Surprisingly, he claims that he can teach you how to invest safely and also beat the top mutual fund and hedge fund managers. Written in Belfort’s colorful style, the book is packed with helpful advice for anyone who wants to manage their investments rather than relying on expensive financial advisors. He simplifies how to determine a stock’s true value and reveals to the reader that it’s not a secret skill but rather something anyone can learn with just a little effort.
He explains that stock prices are driven by the law of supply and demand and further argues that Wall Street’s high fees are not justifiable. He affirms that anyone can outperform most advisors by simply following clear and simple strategies.
One of the main points Belfort discusses is long-term passive investing. He considers this a smarter and more reliable approach than relying on short-term active trading. He shares plenty of useful tips that are worth the time for anyone interested in the stock market and long-term investing.
