Jelena Dokic
Jelena Dokic was born on April 12th, 1983 and is currently 43 years old. Jelena Dokic was born in Osijek, Croatia.
Jelena Dokic is a public speaker, tennis commentator, sports analyst, and a former professional tennis player.
She won WTA Tour events on all surfaces during her career. Her best ranking as a tennis player was world #4 in August of 2002.
Jelena won the US Open girls' singles title and French Open doubles with Kim Clijsters, ending that season ranked world #1 in the junior singles and world #7 in doubles. She was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder.
During the 1999 Wimbledon Championships, 16-year-old Jelena achieved one of the biggest upsets in tennis history, defeating Martina Hingis 6-2 and 6-0 in the first round. It remains the one time that the women's world #1 has ever been beaten by a qualifier at Wimbledon. She went on to reach the quarterfinals of that competition, which was just her second Grand Slam championship.
Jelena ascended rapidly through the ranks after her breakthrough at Wimbledon; however, her time in the world elite was beset by her off-court struggles. Her relationship with Damir Dokic (her outspoken dad and coach), on whose advice she switched her allegiance to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in November of 2000, was the subject of much media speculation through the years. She switched back to Australia in 2005.
In 2008, she made her serious return to tennis and finished in 2009 back in the WTA top 100; however, she thereafter struggled badly with her form and injuries, and quit playing professionally in 2014.
Fearless: Finding the Power to Thrive is about how you reclaim life when it all feels lost. It is about learning to reach out for help and then healing. It is about speaking up and the power of sharing our stories. Jelena, in past years, has dealt with disordered eating and reclaimed her body; she's stood up to online abuse and body shaming. She's faced her mental health demons head-on in order to find some stability in the chaos of life. She's endured a devastating relationship breakdown.
This book is about beginning from the bottom and building yourself back up. She opens up about how she's survived heartache and trauma so that she could establish herself as a motivational speaker and a leading tennis commentator.
The previous years have taught her many important and tough lessons, and now she's ready to share them so that she can help others find their voice and have the power to thrive.
