Jean Beauvoir
Jean Beauvoir was born on August 9th, 1960 and is currently 64 years old. Jean Beauvoir was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Jean Beauvoir is a guitarist, bassist, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and entertainment executive. He came to prominence during the 80s with the Plasmatics, a punk band and would work with Kiss, the Ramones, and Little Steven, as well as being a solo artist.
Jean played drums when he was a child before switching to the bass during his teen years. When he was 14, he was Gary US Bonds’ musical director; after this, he sang for the doo wop group the Flamingos. Jean gained his first professional experience with these groups while touring around the US performing at Dick Clark revival shows. His dad kicked him out of his home at the age of 15, because of his desire to pursue music professionally. He lived with his bandmates, and then on his own.
Jean moved to New York City during the punk rock explosion and answered this newspaper ad for a bass player, which led to him joining the Plasmatics for three albums. During his time with the Plasmatics and after, he sported this conspicuous blond mohawk.
In 1985, Jean co-wrote and recorded a number of songs for Kiss’ 13th album, called “Asylum”. He even played bass and provided some background vocals in Gene Simmons’ absence on “Uh! All Night!” and “Who Wants to Be Lonely”.
Sylvester Stallone picked the song “Feel the Heat” for his movie
Cobra. The song was a hit, charting Top 10 across Australia and Europe and hitting 73 on the
Billboard Hot 100.
Bet My Soul on Rock n Roll: Diary of a Black Punk Icon is the life and career of Jean Beauvoir (Haitian-American musician) who was a member of the Plasmatics, a legendary New York City punk group.
Jean Beauvoir joined up with the Plasmatics in 1979, playing keyboards and bass for the most notorious band to emerge from the New York City punk scene. By 1982, he had joined Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, this retro-rock revival act that Steven Van Zandt headed up. The Disciples of Soul videos played on MTV during the earliest years of the network, which made Beauvoir one of the first Black recording artists to cross the music channel’s “color line”.
He went on to become a multi-platinum artist, songwriter, and producer. This book follows his ride through the American music industry, detailing his encounters with rock stars like Gene Simmons, Lita Ford, Paul Stanley, Bruce Springsteen, as well as Sylvester Stallone, Richard Branson (the billionaire executive), and even Donald Trump. He also considers the manner in which his Haitian heritage has shaped his public image, his music, and his role as an activist for the poor and dispossessed.
