I don’t think ‘The Girl Before’ did Delaney any favors. People kept making comparisons to ‘The Girl On The Train’ and ‘Gone Girl.’ Personally, I stayed away because I was sick of thrillers with ‘Girl’ in the title. I also know people who read the book and disliked it because it did not live up to the expectations created by the comparisons.
My first Delaney novel was ‘Playing Nice .’ It was so gripping that I read ‘The Girl Before’ immediately after. I like ‘Playing Nice’ more, but ‘The Girl Before’ was also excellent.
Delaney’s stories are addictive. He writes better psychological thrillers than any other author I have ever encountered. Anyone that chose to ignore him because of the title of ‘The Girl Before’ should give that book another chance.
Just finished my first novel by JP Delaney, Believe Me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Parts read like a movie script but this wasn’t at distracting. Will seek out others by this author.
