Derek Delgaudio
Derek Delgaudio was born in Huntington Beach, CA, USA.
Derek Delgaudio is a storyteller, magician, and performance writer from the United States, celebrated for his multiple talents.
He was still in his teens when he began practicing sleight of hand. He would then become a card mechanic involved in private, high-stakes poker games, and this was his introduction to psychology and the art of subtle deception.
Delgaudio would make his name as a performer at the famous
Magic Castle in Los Angeles, where he won
Close Up Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts in both 2011 and 2012.
While he was doing well for himself during the 2010s, he aspired to go beyond traditional magic. He began to work with Glenn Kaion, and together they founded
A.BANDIT, a conceptual performance collective that was involved in innovative staging works for exhibitions at the New York-based
The Kitchen and
Art Basel in Miami.
In 2013, Delgaudi starred in
Nothing to Hide, the off-Broadway show which he also wrote. However, his most significant breakthrough was when he blended philosophy, memoir, and magic in the 2016 release
In & Of Itself. After it was on air for more than two years, the film was released on Hulu in 2021.
Derek Delgaudio has also worked at
Walt Disney Imagineering, where he was Artist in Residence. During this time, he was a consultant on works such as
The Carbonato Effect and
The Prestige.
In 2022, he made his debut in feature films when he acted in
Kimi by Steven Soderbergh.
In 2021, Derek Delgaudio published the work
Amoralman, in which he explores some momentous events from his past after he found a journal that made him doubt his honesty.
Delgaudio delves into the details of his experiences with professional con artists, sleight of hand, and deception as he navigates family secrets and his time working as a corrupt poker dealer. Along the way, Derek reflects on identity, morality, and the many illusions we create in our lives.
Both gripping and thoughtful, the work explores how self-deception can influence one's perception of the truth. It is both a story about confronting uncomfortable realities and a reflection on what it means to be a good person.
